Dr. ManopAorpimai, Director-General, Department of Strategic Planning and Program Management, represented APSCO in the 10th GEOSS Asia-Pacific Symposium held in Hanoi, Vietnam during September 18-20, 2017. The event was co-organized by Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), the Group on Earth Observation (GEO) and Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan with the theme of ¡°Accelerating the Realization of the SDGs with Earth Observations: Lessons from the Asia-Oceania Region¡±. Among 210 participants from countries and organizations in the Asia-Pacific regions, Dr. Manop delivered the report on APSCO¡¯s GEO-related activities. His presentation was warmly welcomed by the audiences.
During the symposium, APSCO delegate also joined the Working Group discussion session, particularly on the WG5: Agriculture and Food Security, where he had an opportunity to share APSCO¡¯s experiences on application of its DSSP on the above topic with other experts from GEO community. In parallel, there were other 4 discussions, namely, WP1: GEOSS Asian Water Cycling Initiative, WP2: Asia-Pacific Biodiversity Observation Network, WP3: The GEO Carbon and GHG Initiative, and WP4: Ocean and Society in the AP Region under Blue Planet Initiative.
Beside, APSCO delegate also had an opportunity to meet with other delegates from APSCO Members States and share their common interests. The symposium was successfully concluded with the agreement of the Hanoi Statement 2017 by the participants.
